Brook Furniture Rental was founded in 1979.when Robert W. Crawford, Jr., now an inducted member of the Chicago Area Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame,bought the assets of a small Chicago furniture rental company with annual revenue of about $500,000.

In 1990 Brook Furniture Rental purchased the westcoast operations of Bruener's Furniture Rental, a John Breuner Company. This acquisition gave Brook an immediate presence in multiple fast growing California markets. Also that year, Brook purchased various operations of competitors in Milwaukee and Chicago, further solidifying the Company's market presence in and around its home markets. Over the next three years, Brook Furniture Rental continued to purchase smaller furniture rental operations of companies in Southern California, integrating these companies into its existing California operations.

In 1999, Brook Furniture Rental entered the Dallas Fort Worth market with the opening of a new showroom and distribution facility.

In the year 2000, Brook Furniture Rental entered the Atlanta area with a showroom and distribution facility. Brook bought the Las Vegas operations of a competitor as well as the Washington, D.C. residential furniture rental business of ExecuStay by Marriott that same year.

In 2006, Brook Furniture Rental added a new distribution center and showroom in Lanham, Maryland. A second showroom in the greater Washington DC area, in Fairfax, Virginia. Brook also opened a new showroom in Rancho Cucamonga, California that same year.

Robert Crawford, III, formerly a marketing executive with Coca-Cola and earlier with Quaker Oats, joined Brook Furniture Rental in 2007 as executive vice president. Crawford, the son of Brook founder and CEO Robert Crawford, Jr., was immediately responsible for developing marketing and managing three of its seven regions.

In 2009, Robert Crawford, III became President of Brook Furniture Rental. Shortly thereafter, Brook announced plans to provide rental furniture service to Austin Texas and Houston, Texas.

Today, 2009, thirty years after its founding, Brook Furniture Rental has revenue exceeding $60 million. Brook is the second largest company
(and the largest privately held company) in the domestic rent-to-rent segment of the U.S. furniture rental industry
